Teevir is a complete,1-pill, once-a-day prescription medication by Mylan Pharma, used to treat HIV infection. It contains 3 antiretroviral agents: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, emtricitabine, and efavirenz. Tenofovir disoproxil and Emtricitabine are both classified as nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Efavirenz is, by contrast, is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. HIV is a retrovirus that targets the immune system, which is the system that fights off infection and disease. The virus damages or destroys white blood cells called CD4 cells. This makes it difficult for the body to fight off illness. Each drug included in Teevir tablets serves a unique purpose, but together they work to accomplish several important goals:
